Build Adaptive Capacity
Inquiry is about questions. It is approaching every interaction, every situation, every opportunity with questions about what can be learned in this moment, in this situation, with this person. In the emergent, unpredictable world of complex systems, inquiry is the only way you can move forward.
Uncertainty has become a way of life today, on all fronts. Even in the best of situations in your day-to-day life, you stand on the edge of uncertainty. Economic, political, social, and technological forces shape your life in ways you can’t predict or know.
We think of conflict as a pattern of human interaction that emerges as similarities, differences, and connections among people as they live, work, and play together. To expand this HSD perspective, think about conflict as a complex pattern that exhibits certain characteristics.
Build Adaptive Capacity
We swim in a sea of noise. Images, words, sounds, and stories bombard us. Marketing tries to seduce us on city busses, bill boards, and buildings. News jumps from the black and white local newspapers. The 24-hour, almost unlimited, channels bring us news, shopping, stories, sports, and everything in between. Music, news, and talk radio keep us company wherever we go.
Plan in Uncertainty
In Human Systems Dynamics Institute, we say, “Nothing is intractable.” We chose that bold statement to express our belief that you can always find an option for action, no matter how difficult the challenge.
Collaborate to Create Community
The role of the facilitator has changed significantly in the last few years. Today’s patterns of engagement, teaching and learning, problem solving, and forecasting require us to learn to facilitate or help to facilitate conversations. Whether you are a leader or a participant, read on to learn how Adaptive Action becomes a facilitator’s best tool to work with complex human systems.
Manage Strategic Change
Human Systems Dynamics (HSD) helps you see, understand, and influence the patterns of interaction and decision making that shape your world. Over the past three months, I have introduced and explored a set of principles that help you understand change in the complexity of human systems. These principles use the essence of HSD to offer options for understanding and taking action as you navigate change in complex systems.
