Manage Strategic Change
Merriam-Webster defines culture as, “the set of values, conventions, or social practices associated with a particular field, activity, or societal characteristic.” Culture and culture change have been central to leadership practice in the past decade. It is no less important, but it is much more difficult, to manage, in this age of Zoom “rooms” and Teams “chats.”

Since my last post, things in the US have only gotten worse. Militias in Michigan, COVID in the Whitehouse, wildfires in the West, hurricanes in the South, and dark money in the courts. In spite of all these patterns of destruction, I am beginning to see a different and more constructive path for myself and my community. I have acknowledged the turbulent patterns I cannot change. Now I can search for more useful patterns that are mine to influence. This journey from painful realization to dawning opportunity has not been easy, and it is far from complete. At this turn in the road, though, I want to share some of my emerging insights about our shared, emergent future.

Systems experience different types of change, and each requires its own approaches for support and leadership. The Three Kinds of Change model and method offers a description of the three ways systems experience change. It helps you understand the type of change you experience so that you can plot the best fit system-wide response.

Most people agree that there is no “getting back to normal.” Still, many of us hope for a time in the future when change slows down, the world stabilizes, and we can at last redefine what it is to be in a “new normal.” The problem is that complex dynamics are often unstable. They shift from one semi-stable state to the next, passing through various levels of turbulence in between. There is no golden future where change stops and normal returns. Instead, we live in the turbulent space between more-or-less-stable states. In any moment, we must remember the past, cope with the present, and prepare for whatever is next. We are always prepared for the “next normal.”
In this Live Virtual Workshop, we will explore concepts and tools to help you deepen your preparedness for whatever is next for you, your team, organization, or community

How do you make decisions when your world is changing with the speed of social media, and you are inundated with a world of answers, choices, and other people’s opinions? What do you do when all the “off the shelf” answers are ok, but none of them is really what you are looking for? Do you settle for “just ok?” Do you go ahead and purchase the product and then spend untold resources making it fit your needs? In HSD we help you use Adaptive Action to design responses and interventions that fit the unique nature of your work and your business. We give you what it takes to look at challenges, weigh the options, based on what you see, and take action to move forward. Then you look around to see where that got you and to take the next step. We continue working, looking for what is true in our world and still useful to us, using that to continue to inform and fuel our work. Join us in this LVW to learn to Design When You Can’t Decide.
